My 5 cats and I recommend the Catit Drinking Fountain!! January 28, 2005 Movie-Maven (Illinois) 78 out of 79 found this review helpful
My five cats love this fountain! No more trips to the sink to turn on the tap for my feline friends. It's much quieter than the Drinkwells I used to have. I bought two Catit fountains several months ago and I'm very impressed. They really do hold a lot of water. I only have to refill them once a week. Maintainence is a snap! Everything comes apart easily for a once-a-month cleaning (including the pump!)keeping them running smoothly and prevents mold and mineral deposits. The filters are easy to change and inexpensive.
The water flows quietly and smoothly over the dome, provided the fountain is on a level surface. At initial start-up and after refilling it may be necessary to "massage" the dome to break any "static cling" that would prevent smooth-flowing water. The one on the ceramic tile floor is a bit off-level so it doesn't flow as smoothly or as soundlessly as the one on the hardwood floor. But it's a LOT quieter than the Drinkwell fountains. A cushioned placemat underneath the fountains helps catch any kitty-spills and makes the fountains virtually sound-free! I like the bubble design and it doesn't take up much room. I'm very happy with this product.
Breif Review of Hagen Catit Drinking Fountain May 14, 2006 Scott Park (New York, NY USA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
The Catit Drinking Fountain by Hagen is the best pet drinking fountain that I've found so far. I originally purchased a PetMate Fresh Flow fountain, but it was terrible to clean and was easily clogged by fur. The Catit fountain succeeds where the Fresh Flow failed. The reservoir separates making it easy to clean, not to mention its filter is before the pump keeping fur and other junk out. It also doesn't have many tight spaces making it much less likely to build up nasty bacteria. It also has a generous water tank and operates quietly.
Pros:
- Filter before pump
- Large water tank
- Moderately easy to clean
- Free food dish
- Quiet operation
- Comprehensive instructions with replacement part numbers
Cons:
- A few tight spaces
Best fountain so far June 11, 2005 Meeker 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
This fountain is easier to fill, easier to clean, and holds much more water than other fountains. The dome is a little awkward, but it holds 100oz, which is well worth it. Once the dome is removed the filter is easy to remove and clean and the pump is right there if you need to swipe a finger across it to remove hair. There are no nooks that are hard to clean and get slimy. The filter is wide and doesn't let pieces of cat food through. I've owned mine for 6 months now and I love it and keep it filled. I let my old one run dry all the time. My most stubborn, sink drinking cat finally started using the Catit a couple months ago. I fill it once every 1-2 days for 8 cats and do not have a backup. Works great, cats like it, and I like the way the dome looks too.
I remember I had problems with the water not flowing completely over the dome at first, but I adjusted the top "screw" and that fixed it.
Catit Fountain gets two tongues up September 24, 2006 J. Kasper (PA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
My two cats really like their Catit fountain. After setting it up and figuring out how to fill it, I used bottled spring water because of the hard water we have at our house. The boys drink out of it a lot, one out of the reservoir and one straight off the dome. There is only a little hum from the pump. I had a problem getting the water to flow over the whole dome at the beginning and I was getting a small splashing sound. After picking up one end and moving water all over the dome as it was running, the water finally cascades over the whole thing. The splashing sound is gone also. I'm anxious to see how long it lasts, and I'm hoping that by using bottled water I won't have to change the filters very often. All in all, this is much better than the bowl of tap water that used to serve as the water source for my guys.
ETA: Two months later and it's still going strong! I have to refill the dome every couple of days. It takes about 1 minute to refill. I've done a complete cleaning once by emptying out the water, refilling it with vinegar and running the vinegar through without the filter for about an hour. A thorough rinsing with clean water and it's ready to go again. Haven't had to scrub it at all!
So Far So Good May 7, 2005 Michelle (Chicago) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I've used the Drinkwell fountain in the past and threw it out because my cats never got used to it and it was a hassle to clean. As one of my three cats was recently taken to the veternarian for bladder problems, I decided to give Catit a try.
It has a nice looking design and is easy to set up. After filling up the dome and turning it over onto the base, I had to add more water to the bowl portion so that the water cascaded over the dome. Otherwise, there's just not enough water to make it cascade. I've got to say, it is very nice to look at and very quiet. There's no humming sound of a running motor to deter the cats from drinking. To adust the cascading waterflow, I found that turning the handle at the top of the dome either clockwise or counter-clockswise gave various water flow results as far as how rapidly or how much water cascaded over the dome. Thus far, the unit functions as advertised.
It comes with a food bowl that hooks nicely on the side of the unit. In order to entice my cats to use Catit, I filled this extra bowl with water instead of food. That worked like a charm. My eldest cat started drinking from the bowl immediately. So now they have two standing water options plus a cascading water option all in one unit.
It's barely been one day since I've introduced the unit to my cats, we'll see how it goes. My eldest cat loves to drink running water from the faucet and I'm waiting to see if he will drink the water cascading over the dome. My most curious cat that had the bladder obstruction will be coming home this weekend and will be the perfect tester. I'll post a follow-up.
